Slag Valorisation roadmap: From calculations to pilot scale
Tuesday 8 April 2025 | |
8.30 – 17.30 | |
Department of Materials Engineering, Kasteelpark Arenberg 44/bus 2450, 3001 Leuven, Belgium |
In this workshop, we will discuss methods and research tools for processing slags, starting from their liquid state during metal production and continuing through to their valorisation as finished products. The workshop will cover a range of topics, including high-temperature experimentation with slags, viscosity predictions, and solidification calculations. We will also explore the testing and optimisation of slag as a substitute for cement and its use as a novel building material. Additionally, we will address legislative considerations and assess the environmental impact using the Life Cycle Assessment methodology for this value chain.
The workshop will feature a combination of presentations, interactive sessions, and lab visits at the Department of Materials Engineering at KU Leuven.
