General framework

Two day International Academic Symposium on the valorisation of slags and other metallurgical residues.

Four Symposium Sessions (19-20/3/2013)

  • 19/3 - am: Hot stage slag engineering for higher added value applications and energy recuperation (4 lectures)
  • 19/3 - pm: Metal recovery from slags and high temperature residues (4 lectures)
  • 20/3 - am: Critical metal recovery from slags and metallurgical residues (4 lectures)
  • 20/3 - pm: High added value end-use of slags and metallurgical residues (4 lectures)

Keywords

High temperature residues, Hot stage slag processing, Energy recuperation, New slag applications, Geopolymers, Alkali Activation, Slag cooling methods, Slag mineralogy, Slag valorisation, Critical metals

Invited speakers

16 specialists and/or high level representatives of the key institutes in this field (academia and industry) have been invited to give a lecture on one of the topics listed above. The invited scientific lectures cover a specific topic in a relatively detailed way. The papers of the invited speakers will be distributed to the participants at the beginning of the Symposium in the official Symposium book (cf. Previous editions 1st and 2nd Slag Valorisation Symposia).

Poster session (19-20/3/2013)

Researchers and other actors are invited to present a poster during the lunch and coffee breaks. Poster presenters should submit a 4-page paper before 10/1/2013 which will be published in the official Symposium Book. Standard poster and paper templates are to be used. Poster titles (together with the authors' list and a short abstract) need to be delivered upon registration.

Deadlines for speakers

Papers need to be sent to before 10/1/2013. This is a sharp deadline in order to be able to produce the Symposium book in time, including a reviewing procedure by a Board of Scientific Advisers. The official template needs to be used.

Deadline for poster papers

The short papers (associated with the posters) need to be sent to before 10/1/2013. The official template needs to be used.

Participants

Due to practical reasons only 200 participants (including speakers and organisers) can take part in the Symposium. Registration is performed through the on-line registration page.

Registration fee

  • Early registration fee (before 1/2/2013): € 300
  • Graduate student registration fee (before 1/1/2013): € 150
  • Late registration fee (after 1/2/2013): € 500

The registration fee includes a copy of the Symposium Book, the Symposium Reception (20/3), Lunch on 19-20/3, Coffee on 19-20/3 and the Symposium Dinner (19/3).

Exempted are: Speakers, SIM² KU Leuven researchers, Industrial Members from "Centre for High Temperature Processes, Metallurgy and Refractory Materials" and "Centre for Resource Recovery and Recycling-EU Branch" (€ 70 for Symposium Dinner - Speakers and Chairpersons are exempted for the Symposium Dinner as well)

Exhibition

Companies and suppliers are invited to present their technology and know-how to other companies and scientists, alongside the Symposium. Due to practical reasons only 10 booths are granted. Exhibition fee is €1.000 + 21% Belgian VAT for one booth (2m x 2m). The registration deadline is 10/01/2013. We offer exhibitors the possibility to advertise their products and services also in the Symposium book. More information is available here.
